Signed in the plate. A dynamic and finely observed lithograph by Auguste Raffet, depicting a festive gathering in a Romanian military camp. In the foreground, villagers and soldiers join in dance and music, their animated movements contrasting with the ordered backdrop of tents and banners. Raffet’s meticulous linework captures both the spirited atmosphere of celebration and the ethnographic richness of costume and gesture. Raffet, a pupil of Gros and one of the greatest French lithographers of the 19th century, was admired for his ability to combine military precision with the vitality of popular life.
