Lithograph on wove paper, realized between 1835 and 1845. Signed in the plate. Sheet shows scattered foxing, especially in the margins; image area clean with excellent tonal contrast and minimal wear. This lithograph by Auguste Raffet depicts a drummer from the 1er Régiment de la Légion de la Vistule — the Polish Legion that fought under Napoléon Bonaparte during the early 19th century. The soldier stands in full dress uniform with a drum slung at his side, rendered in Raffet’s characteristically lively, finely detailed style. Behind him, the suggestion of ramparts and troops creates an atmospheric martial backdrop, while his resolute stance embodies the esprit de corps that Raffet often sought to convey in his military portraits. This print is part of his celebrated series documenting the soldiers and regiments of the Napoleonic Wars. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
