Lithograph on wove paper realized between 1820s and 1830s. Signed in the plate. Pronounced foxing across the margins and verso; image area retains good contrast though with light overall toning; edges slightly time-stained. This dramatic lithograph by Horace Vernet portrays a Napoleonic-era skirmish scene, with uniformed soldiers crossing a river in a small boat while engaging in musket fire. Smoke rises in the distance from a burning building, while more figures can be seen along the shoreline. Vernet — one of the most renowned French military painters and lithographers of the 19th century — was celebrated for his vivid, action-filled depictions of contemporary battles and military life. His scenes often combined documentary accuracy with theatrical flair, and this print embodies his hallmark energy and narrative clarity. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
