Lithograph, c. 1830s. Signed in the plate. A finely detailed lithograph by Auguste Raffet, one of the most celebrated French lithographers of military subjects in the 19th century. This work depicts a proud grenadier of the Royal Guard standing in full uniform, musket in hand, with his regiment assembled in the background. The setting, with its stately architecture and disciplined ranks, emphasizes both the grandeur of the royal forces and Raffet’s talent for capturing military life with precision and vigor. Raffet, a pupil of Gros, was admired by contemporaries such as Stendhal for his ability to immortalize the Napoleonic epic and later military subjects with a mix of realism and heroic sentiment. This lithograph belongs to his important series illustrating the uniforms and esprit of French troops during the Bourbon Restoration and July Monarchy. Condition: Foxing and light age toning throughout, image strong and well-preserved. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
