Acrylic and posca colors on canvas – 2013. Without frame: the edges of the canvas are painted. Signature on the side of the canvas and on the back. Born and raised on an island where the sea surrounds my city, i can only immerse myself in it to see another life—the same life that changes and transforms before my eyes, where fish become tropical, their colors grow stronger, and what they eat becomes increasingly industrial. From this comes the work “fish”, along with many other related themes. The artist: i tried to find a way to represent, with an intense acrylic color on one side and an unsaturated blending with water on the other, the connection of the subject with the whole—between matter and spirit, between what is visible and what is invisible. A kind of connection created by drops of color and water. Over time, this division between matter and spirit has become more evident, but gradually the colors have become more and more like watercolors, more blended, so that spirit becomes one with matter: matter now degraded, fluorescent, unnatural, disharmonic. The drops of matter and the highly saturated colors can only represent the denunciation of the environmental degradation of our century, where the oceans are acidifying, forests are being cut down, and animals are becoming extinct. Alessandro filetti, born and raised in catania in 1982, has followed his passion for drawing guided by an instinct that over time led him to deepen his studies and choose specific techniques with which he still pursues his artistic research today. From the very beginning, he loved acrylic paints for their brilliance and watercolors for their spontaneity. While studying comics in rome, he worked extensively with ecoline inks and computer graphics, which also allowed him to appreciate strong and intense colors. At the academy of fine arts, he attended the engraving and graphic arts course to further develop the graphic style of comics. He worked for a short period at a video game agency in catania, also exploring digital painting, through which he now creates graphic illustrations. After creating his first canvases, he rarely exhibited his works to the public due to a lack of confidence in himself and in painting. However, thanks to the support of several gallerists (salvo torrisi art gallery, spazio vitale of vitale, and calcagno galleries of davide calcagno), who with their objective perspective on the art scene helped him, he managed to find a path—one that he continues to study today with great passion and pride, because he has finally begun to express himself.
