Lithograph on paper realized by Auguste Raffet in 1857. Image dimension cm. 33x23. Signed and dated in the plate. This lithograph by Auguste Raffet presents a full-length portrait of a young female cantinière (vivandière) from the mid-19th century, created during the period of the Crimean War (1853–1856). Cantinières, also called vivandières, were women attached to French army regiments who provided soldiers with food, drink, laundry, and sometimes medical care. Very good condition. Auguste Raffet was a leading French lithographer and illustrator, initially trained by Théodore Géricault. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
