Etching and aquatint on wove paper, realized after Correggio. A delicate reproductive print by Alphonse Leroy after a drawing by the Italian Renaissance master Antonio da Correggio. The composition depicts the Virgin seated in gentle repose, her gaze turned tenderly toward the Christ Child who leans against her with arms outstretched. Rendered with soft tonal transitions, the work captures the grace and intimacy typical of Correggio’s devotional imagery. Such reproductive engravings were popular during the 19th century as a means of disseminating Renaissance masterpieces to a wider audience, and Leroy’s interpretation emphasizes both the sculptural modeling and ethereal atmosphere of the original. Some overall toning and scattered foxing consistent with age; plate impression clear and image strong. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
