Lithograph on paper, realized by Raffet in the mid-19th century. A spirited Romantic-era lithograph depicting a French hussar riding alongside a rustic cart drawn by two horses, inside of which sit three young women—two coyly smiling, one glancing back, while a small dog runs alongside the cart. The scene is animated with gentle humor and charm, hinting at the flirtatious reputation of hussars of the period. Windmills dot the distant countryside, evoking a northern French or Flemish setting. The print is finely executed with Raffet’s characteristic attention to military costume and movement, here softened by a pastoral setting. Sheet shows scattered foxing and light handling marks consistent with age. Verso with faint pencil sketch of a similar cart scene. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
