Lithograph on wove paper, realized in 1846. Signed and dated in the plate. This engaging interior scene by Auguste Raffet depicts an intimate moment in a Tatar household at mealtime. A bearded patriarch stands at the center holding a sabre, surrounded by women and children seated on patterned carpets. The domestic setting is carefully rendered, showing shelves laden with vessels and plates, low divans with cushions, and a traditional serving tray on the floor. Raffet, renowned for his lithographic mastery and keen ethnographic eye, conveys both the dignity and warmth of family life within the context of 19th-century Crimean Tatar culture. His attention to costume, posture, and household furnishings reflects his broader aim to document the cultural richness of the peoples he encountered during his Eastern travels, including his work during the Crimean War. Even scattered foxing throughout the margins and verso; image area clean with strong contrasts and well-preserved details; minor edge wear. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
