Lithograph on paper, realized in 1830s by Auguste Raffet. This historical lithograph by Auguste Raffet captures a stirring moment among French Revolutionary soldiers. A representative addresses the ragged yet determined troops, declaring: «Avec du fer et du pain on peut aller en Chine… Il n’a pas parlé de chaussures» (“with iron and bread, one can march to China… He did not mention shoes”), underlining their resolve despite deprivation. The composition balances dramatic gesture and weary figures, set against a backdrop of camp and distant cavalry. Printed by Tihaut Frères, Paris. Sheet with light foxing and age toning; central image well preserved. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
