A Very Fine Quality Mid 19th Century Victorian Burr Walnut Pedestal Desk, Of Good Proportions, Having Attractive Replacement Gilt Tooled And Decorated Leather Inset To Crossbanded Top, Over Nine Highly Figured, Mahogany Lined Frieze Drawers, with Replacement Brass Handles And Well Figured Panelled Back, Raised On Original Plinths with Recessed Castors.
An extremely practical and exceptional quality 19th century antique office desk which boasts exceptionally well figured walnut veneers throughout, alongside being constructed from the highest quality secondary timbers by some of the best 19th century craftsman. Even the drawer linings are made from mahogany whch means that they still run as smoothly as the day they were made.
The brass ring handles are replaced which is extremely common on these items and actually they sit really rather nicely on the piece and add further elegance to it, alongside the wonderful veneers. The inset leather top is also replaced and unlike most desks available for sale now the leather which has been used is of the highest grade, finished exquistely with gilt and blind tooled decoration.
The size is a breath of fresh air for those with little available floor space to set up a working from home environment, as it manages to be big enough and offer enough storage for practical day to day working whilst not being too imposing in a room. It is also designed so that it can be positioned either freestanding centrally or against a wall which of course adds even further to its versatility.
Georgian and Victorian pedestal desks vary wildly in style, shape, size, finish and quality, but there is absolutely no doubt whatsoever that this particular desk is in the highest bracket when it comes to quality of construction, quality of materials and quality of workmanship, the result of which is of course a really rather wonderful piece of furniture.
The desk does come into three pieces for ease of transportation as is common for this period and that of course makes it even easier to get into absolutely any location around the home which the purchaser desires. Its also worth noting that this desk would make a wonderful dressing table as well.
As with all items which we offer for sale this 19th century desk has been attended to in our workshops, by our highly skilled, trained antique furniture restorers and received a traditional wax polish finish to ensure that it is absolutely ready to be placed straight into a home, or office environment.
