This relatively small piece exemplifies the distinctive riviera modernism that defined vallauris ceramics in the postwar decades — a blend of artisanal craft and sculptural form. The rectangular frame, crafted in textured earthenware, features a deeply modeled surface with incised and relief geometric motifs. Its rich, hand-applied glazes catch the light beautifully, highlighting the natural irregularities of the clay. The mirror retains its original glass and is fitted with a sturdy hanging loop on the reverse. Signed “galerie palissy – vallauris” on the back, confirming its origin in one of the town’s mid-century ceramic workshops active during vallauris’s golden era, when artists and artisans such as picasso, capron, derval and many others brought international attention to the region.
