A particularly attractive, impressive and versatile Victorian armchair in lovely antique condition. Made in England around 1880, this extremely comfortable armchair is a stunning example of outstanding High Victorian quality, which will add gorgeous colouring and bygone elegance, excellence, and sophistication to any interior.
Beautifully crafted, generously proportioned and reassuringly heavy, this superb antique armchair has in recent decades been reupholstered in a very appealing and finely styled cream fabric with floral-diamond patterning.
Designed to infuse a grand Victorian parlour or salon with extreme comfort, grandeur and beauty, it features a wonderfully hand-carved ‘show frame’ and an enchantingly curvy ‘spoon back’ of solid walnut. It has a large, sprung seat and a plumply-padded broad back and roll-arms to ensure perfect relaxation.
Ideal as a reception, reading or lounge chair, it is set on beautifully turned front legs complete with brass and porcelain castors and shapely, out-turned, squared rear legs on metal foot pins.
All in all this is a really attractive, comfortable and versatile armchair and is a wonderful example of Victorian finery, which won’t fail to enhance any setting with distinguished quality, charm and stylish splendour.
CONDITION
This super armchair is in very good antique condition. Solid, sturdy and structurally sound, it is reassuringly heavy and has only minor wear to show its age. Expertly and tastefully reupholstered just over 10 years ago, it has been used sparingly and kept ‘for best’, and as such has only minor hard-to-notice marks to the upholstery and to-be-expected minor marks and bumps to the stunning walnut show-frame. Overall it’s a strikingly attractive, super-comfy and very impressive Victorian armchair in lovely antique condition, and if well looked after it should remain just as fabulous for generations to come – please see the photos.
