An extraordinary and rare matched pair of 19th-century miniature bronze sculptures, depicting the famed Medici brothers Giuliano and Lorenzo de' Medici, after the original life-size marble masterpieces by Michelangelo housed in the Cappelle Medicee in Florence, Italy.
Each figure is rendered in superb high relief with crisp, lifelike detail—capturing the regal bearing and introspective expression that define Michelangelo’s Renaissance originals. Thickly cast and impressively weighty at approximately 3 pounds apiece, these bronzes exude presence, making them ideal for use as luxurious bookends or captivating standalone accent pieces on a console, desk, or library shelf.
These exquisite miniatures were cast in the 1840s by the esteemed French sculptor Pierre Louis Frederic Sauvage (1786–1857). One sculpture bears the impressed mark "R.tion Sauvage", a rare and desirable feature for collectors of fine 19th-century bronzes.
Each measures approximately 6.5 inches high, 2.25 inches wide and 2.25 inches deep. Their rich, time-softened patina, featuring variations in lighter and darker bronze tones, enhances their authenticity and historic character. Expected age-related wear from handling and display by generations of owners only adds to their story and charm. Please review the photos for further condition assessment.
Likely acquired as an elite Grand Tour souvenir by a discerning 19th-century traveler, it’s increasingly rare to encounter such a well-preserved, matched pair. A superb addition for collectors of fine European bronzes, Renaissance revival pieces, or Grand Tour mementos.
An exceptional find—presentation-quality, display-ready, and rich with historic and aesthetic appeal.
