The substantial crystal base features a bold swirl pattern, expertly cut with remarkable clarity and brilliance. Atop the inkwell rests a beautifully detailed sterling silver lid, richly adorned with an ornate, dimensional repoussé floral pattern, surrounding an elegantly engraved "HH" monogram. The silver is clearly marked "Theodore Starr Sterling," a name synonymous with fine American silver of the period.

An expert appraiser has carefully reviewed this piece and believes there’s a strong likelihood the exquisite crystal base was produced by Baccarat. While unsigned — as was often customary for Baccarat’s utilitarian desk and vanity accessories — the high quality and distinctive craftsmanship are unmistakable. Good antique condition, there is a chip to the rim of the removable inner liner, scratches/surface wear to base, there are a few flea bite chips to edges.
