An exceptional early 20th century four drawer altar or console table from China. The front is embellished with incised and pierced carving and lacquer in shades of red, black blue and white. Imagery of flowers, grapes and cloud formations along the legs, which are reminiscent of the style of clouds found on Tibetan furniture. Made of mixed woods including pine and elm. The distressed two plank, natural wood top with exposed tenons and butterfly joints has a satin lacquer finish. The mortise and tenon construction tight and sturdy. The drawers glide smoothly by pulling on original iron ring pulls. This piece is stunning, sure to be the focal point of any room while offering practical storage.
