a late 19th century Turkish Melas Prayer Rug
3'5' x 5'
The town of Melas lies on the southwest coast of the Mediterranean Sea in Turkey. Majority of rugs made in this region were prayer rugs with very distinguished bright color pallets. Other characteristic motif in these type of rugs is their unique shape of the Mihrab and columns which repeats in most of these rugs.
