This impressive fine art print of an original painting by British artist Matt Rix celebrates the strength and stature of the Hereford bull, a classic emblem of rural Britain. Set against a backdrop of golden rolling hills and a soft grey-tinged sky, the bull stands commandingly upon earthy ground, its presence both powerful and serene. The composition glows with warm, natural tones that evoke the quiet grandeur of the pastoral landscape.
Rix’s celebrated folk art style transforms the subject with charm and character — the exaggerated oblong body, curled horns, and delicately slender legs echo the distinctive proportions found in 18th- and 19th-century livestock portraits, traditionally commissioned to showcase an owner’s finest animals. The bull’s black and white markings, pink nose, and gentle brown eye lend individuality and life to this proud creature, imbuing the work with both humour and affection.
Each print is presented in a black, hand-painted wooden frame with a gilt inner edge, meticulously finished by the artist himself. The reverse of the frame is lined with a collage of authentic antique papers and hand-signed by Matt Rix, making every piece a unique collector’s item. Please note that the selection and arrangement of vintage pages will vary, ensuring each framed print is truly one of a kind.
Printed on premium 350gsm art paper, the artwork displays rich, faithful colours that reflect the depth and warmth of the original painting, celebrating Rix’s craftsmanship and his contemporary take on classic folk art traditions.
This piece forms part of a set of four complementary animal studies — featuring a prize bull, pig, horse, and ram — each listed separately. Equally striking on its own or as part of the complete series, it offers a distinctive and characterful addition to interiors inspired by British folk art, pastoral heritage, and timeless rural style.
Each framed print measures approximately 35cm x 26.5cm overall, is presented under glass, and arrives ready to hang. This piece has an attribution mark,
