Early Schoolhouse Desk — c. 1900–1920
This is an authentic early 20th-century one-room schoolhouse desk, dating from circa 1900–1920. It features a classic cast-iron side frame with Victorian/Art Nouveau scrollwork typical of American school furnishings of the period. The seat and writing surface are solid maple or birch, never plywood, with the correct age-appropriate oxidation and wear.
The piece is constructed in the traditional integrated form where the seat serves the student behind, and includes a pencil groove and inkwell hole, both correct for pre-1925 examples. All boards appear original, with an untouched, naturally worn surface, showing no evidence of recent sanding or refinishing.
A genuinely early and well-preserved schoolhouse example—ideal for Americana, educational antiques, or country-primitive furniture collections.
