Executed between 1950 and 1955 in a refined workshop in the province of Milan, specialized in producing revisited Neoclassical furnishings and lighting for distinguished interiors. Although not attributable with certainty to a specific designer, these sconces reflect high-quality Italian craftsmanship. The sinuous, richly chiseled arms extend from a decorated central sphere and terminate in refined dolphin-head finials, a decorative motif linked to Venus, cherished in classical art and revived during the Empire period as a symbol of prosperity and maritime elegance. The candleholders are adorned with fluted Neoclassical-style bobeches, which lend balance and proportion to the structure. The casting, chiseling, and subsequent hand polishing highlight the brilliance of the gilt brass, enhancing its warm and sophisticated reflections. The solid lower hemisphere, hollow inside, conceals the wiring that connects the lights at the ends of the arms; it also contains a small metal plate that allows the sconces to be mounted on the wall. These Italian-made sconces are ideal for bringing a touch of refined classic luxury to an entryway, living room, or dining room. They can be displayed harmoniously in interiors furnished in a Classical or Empire style, or as a refined decorative contrast in contemporary settings. A perfect pairing would be with gilt mirrors, carved consoles, or light boiseries, where the brightness of the metal enhances the sense of space and sophistication. The sconces are in good condition. The electrical system is in working order, but the wiring is European; we recommend checking voltage compatibility with an electrician before use. They can be used with light bulbs in the shape of your choice. Dimensions: width 20 cm (7.9 in), depth 13 cm (5.1 in), height 36 cm (14.2 in). See less
