A distinguished example of mid-century American crystal, this covered footed compote features Heisey’s celebrated Etch No. 507 “Orchid,” introduced in 1940 and produced through 1957. The vessel is executed in brilliant Heisey crystal with exceptional clarity, showcasing the company’s renowned precision wheel-cut work. The bowl displays the full Orchid motif—graceful sprays of cymbidium blooms arranged in balanced symmetry—executed by skilled artisans using controlled, deep acid-etch processes characteristic of pre-war production.
The form is equally noteworthy: a tall, pedestal-mounted jar with applied scroll handles, a broad circular foot, and a high domed lid surmounted by a sculptural pulled-loop finial. Each component reflects Heisey’s commitment to substantial weight, optical brightness, and flawless tooling. Pieces of this complexity were among the premium offerings within the Orchid line, produced in comparatively limited quantities. A representative example of Heisey’s finest work in the 1940–1948 period, sought after by collectors for both its refined craftsmanship and its place within the company’s most iconic etched patterns.
