This captivating original oil pastel painting by Grand Rapids artist Sue Lockwood, titled “Gumdrop Trees” (2004), showcases a beautiful blend of realism and color field artistry. Lockwood’s masterful use of vibrant oil pastels brings the serene landscape to life, depicting a gentle riverbank, lush trees, and a softly rolling hill washed in rich, luminous color.
The composition balances expressive color with natural detail, creating a landscape that feels both peaceful and visually striking. This unique fusion of painterly realism and bold color fields makes “Gumdrop Trees” a standout example of Lockwood’s artistic style.
