French, of course, probably from the 40s or so. You can screw either or both pieces to the wall, there are holes a-plenty for that. The top piece serves ever-so-well at the front door, keeping coats and hats and all sorts of other items off nearby doorknobs, on the floor, or somewhere else that vexes you.

The bottom piece is intended for umbrellas or…? Put gloves or boots to dry out and warm up, hang hand towels from the rails, you name it.

Sleep-working, I managed to photograph the bottom piece upside down in the main photo and don’t have the photoshop skills to flip it. Obviously, you can see how it really sits in the other photos. I hope you never get old.

Very easy to spiff up aluminum. Use a 000 or 0000 steel wool pad with some aluminum polish (available at your better hardware stores). I’ve used Brasso for years with excellent results. It won’t take much to have this gleaming like a jewel if that's what you want. Aluminum never rusts - use it in your bathroom for a touch of elegance and utility as well!

Measurements: The bottom piece: 39 1/2 wide, 4 1/2 deep, 19 high to the middle and 21 1/2 on the ends. The Top is 39 wide and projects 12 1/2 inches. Where is fastens to the wall, 11 3/4 high. See less
