Bring a spirited burst of folk-art charm to your space with this extraordinary pair of Mexican tin cherub angels — each measuring approximately 24″ long by 8″ high. These large-format pieces are hand-cut, hand-hammered and hand-painted, with vibrant enamel and silver-toned tin, making them a rare find in the realm of Mexican folk art.
Each angel is depicted mid-flight, holding a trumpet aloft, with expressive wings and dynamic composition. The detailing is beautifully textured: visible hammer marks, folded tin seams and irregular edges speak clearly of skilled artisan craftsmanship rather than mass production.
The backs further reinforce this: they show tool-marks and original metal folds, not machine-pressed forms. Despite extensive market searches (domestic and international), we found no other pair of this size and pattern listed. These factors strongly suggest these were custom-made or produced in a very limited workshop run, rather than common tourist-market items.
Details:
• Origin: Mexico
• Era: Mid-20th century (likely 1930s-1950s, based on construction)
• Material: Hand-hammered tin (hojalata), hand-painted enamel
• Dimensions: Approx. 24″ L × 8″ H (each)
• Condition: Light wear consistent with age / minor paint loss / gentle patina — overall excellent vintage charismatic condition.
• Mounting: Lightweight and ideal for wall display; ready to hang with small nails or picture hooks.
Why rare & special:
• A large scale (24″) uncommon in Mexican folk tin cherubs.
• Hand-cut and hammered rather than pressed, indicating older, artisan technique.
• Lack of other examples in market listings suggests custom manufacturing or very limited production.
• Rich, vibrant palette and joyful mid-flight imagery make a dramatic statement in any bohemian, eclectic or religious-folk art interior.

The paint displays surface wear, small areas of loss, and scuffs consistent with decades of gentle age and handling. The tin has developed a soft, natural oxidation and a few tiny dimples from the hand-hammering process, which are part of the original construction rather than damage. The backs show visible hammer and fold marks, as well as a few areas of oxidation and old adhesive residue from past wall mounting. These are stable and do not affect display. The metal remains sound, sturdy, and lightweight, with no structural cracks or repairs. Please see all photos. Overall, the pair presents beautifully — retaining rich color, character, and the authentic handmade irregularities that make vintage hojalata (Mexican tinwork) so collectible and desirable less
