The painting depicts a breadfruit hanging from a branch, with the background showing a rural Haitian scene. The painting was made with acrylic on unframed canvas. The painting is signed and dated 02/07 on the lower right, Dimensions: 24" H X 20" W. Good condition. According to the Haitian Art Society, Laguerre was born in Les Cayes, in the south of Haiti in 1968. After completing classical studies up to philosophy, Laguerre discovered his artistic vocation early on and began painting in 1983, at the age of 17. A passionate self-taught artist, Jean Laguerre received guidance from the well-known painter Valcin II and then went on to develop his own distinctive and original style. His work, initially centered on still life, draws deeply from both the natural and spiritual worlds. He pays particular attention to fruits, which he carefully observes in nature before recomposing them in his paintings, where yellows, ochres, and greens dominate.
