This woven split reed basket tray measures 16 inches in diameter and stands 1 inch high. Traditionally used for winnowing or harvesting, these baskets were essential for separating grain from chaff by tossing the mixture into the air, allowing the wind to carry away the lighter husks. This ancient tool was also useful for removing dirt from grains, sifting, and drying herbs or seeds. It makes a beautiful centerpiece or can be displayed on an easel in a bookcase, or even hung on a wall.
