Crafted in France circa 1870, this antique folding library ladder combines practical functionality with rustic French country charm. Built of solid pine, the A-frame structure features six graduated wooden steps, including a wide top platform standing 47.75 inches from the floor.
The ladder rests on splayed legs and is fitted with iron hardware and a hinged wooden locking brace for stability. Its clever folding mechanism allows it to collapse flat for convenient storage. The hand-shaped side rails, traditional pegged joinery, and naturally worn edges reflect the craftsmanship and character of the period.
The ladder is in good condition commensurate with age and use, with a warm, naturally aged pine patina. Both functional and decorative, it would make a wonderful addition to a library, country kitchen, or retail display.
