A striking hand-blown amber art glass vase, crafted in a small American hot shop and showcasing the expressive qualities of mid-century and early studio-era glassmaking. The vase features a warm, richly saturated amber color, a spiral “pulled-feather” twist pattern, and a sculptural ruffled rim.
One of the most charming and authentic characteristics of this piece is its slightly asymmetrical top — the rim rises a bit higher on one side, giving the vase a gently off-center, organic profile. This is a hallmark of true studio-made glass, where each piece is shaped individually by the artist rather than produced in molds. The subtle irregularities confirm its authenticity and enhance its artistic appeal.
The underside shows a traditional snapped pontil scar, left intentionally unpolished in the style commonly seen in mid-century and earlier artisan shops. The thickness of the glass, faint surface tool marks, and internal swirl patterns all suggest a handcrafted origin rather than factory production.
While compatible with the aesthetics of the later Studio Glass Movement, particular details — including the amber tone, natural inclusions, and pontil style — indicate it may date earlier, likely from the 1940s–1960s, with the possibility of late 1930s

There is one tiny natural inclusion inside the glass near the rim — a small white silica or air bubble formed during the blowing process. This is typical of artisan glass from this era and is not considered damage. The asymmetry of the rim is original to the piece and part of its handmade charm. Origin: Believed to be American, created by an individual glass artist or small studio active during the mid-century or early studio-craft period. The form and construction are consistent with early artisan workshops in regions such as West Virginia, the Midwest, and California. Estimated Age: Circa 1940s–1960s (with the possibility of late 1930s based on color, pontil, and tooling) Style: Mid-Century • Early Studio • Artisan Glass • Hand-Blown • Organic Modern less
