This antique embroidered silk postcard from World War I, was made in France. These postcards, hand embroidered by French women were popular souvenirs sent home by soldiers to family and loved ones during the war.
The text "SOUVENIR FROM FRANCE" is embroidered below the years "1914,”“1915," "1916," "1917" and “1918” signify the years of the war. The numbers and letters are decorated with the colors of the flags of the Allied nations. The green fabric matting, which appears to be moire silk is in good condition for its age. Custom framed at premiere framers Jubilee Gallery in Brooklyn in the early 1980s. The back paper has been removed. The simple gold gilded frame shows some signs of its age, which only adds to the charm of this gem.
