John Suchy was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1946 and grew up in Westbury, Long Island, New York.
He studied art at the School of Visual Arts, The Art Students League, the Pan American Art School in New York City. For many years, he worked for several New York City advertising agencies and studios as a designer and illustrator. He began drawing and painting Manhattan in 1968 and displayed his work on the street for years before making it to gallery walls. He’s best known for mixed media pieces portraying life in Manhattan, most especially checkered cabs. This work is a distinctly subtle version of his work and while it is from the 1980’s, harkens to a style and feeling evocative of 1970s New York City. It is custom framed in a black metal frame with brown double matting. There are some chips and scratches to the black finish on the frame. Three light spots in the upper left negative space of the image, one of which appears to have disrupted the paper, and the matting has some discoloration on the lower left and some wrinkling on the lower right.
