This is a Very Nice & Quite Rare Authentic Antique Early 19th Century French Silver Tastevin - Sommeliers Wine Tasting … Read more This is a Very Nice & Quite Rare Authentic Antique Early 19th Century French Silver Tastevin - Sommeliers Wine Tasting Cup. The Handle Depicts 2 Snake Facing Each Other Joined at he Mouth. It is Completely Hand Made the as the Hand Wrought Bowl Still Shows some of the Silversmiths Hammer Marks on the Interior Walls. It has 2 Very Early 1800s French Hallmarks. Both are Quite Worn as is the rest of the Cup Showing its Extensive Use Over the Years. It Also Feels Very Smooth When Held in Hand. I was able to Surmise that One of the Marks Depicts a Rooster confirming its "Gallic" French Origin. I was Not Able to Decipher the Other Hallmark but I Believe that it is Most Likely the "Guarantee" mark the Confirms its Silver Content. It has been Tested to Have a Solid 800 Grade ( 80% ) European Coin Silver Content. The Top Rim is Hand Engraved and reads J BECON A ? Possibly the Name of the Original Owner or Possibly the Vineyard ?. It is Quite Heavy with a Total Silver Weight of 89.73 Grams / 2.885 Troy Ounces.
