We are calling this object a trivet, though it's not constructed for heavy use if it is one. What it is though for certain is a very beautiful hand made Japanese wooden piece of art. 14 slates sitting atop two rails. One nail on each side for each slate, with equal distance separating them. Half way through, and underneath, is a smaller slate that holds together the center 6 pieces, with the intention of avoiding the piece from twisting. A slight half inch movement is still there nonetheless. We see this minimalist yet visually rich piece on a wall as a decorative piece of kitchen wear. Great for a sushi bar or restaurant retail setting, or in a house.
