Robert Rauschenberg ( 1925 - 2008 ) the American born Modernist artist of a Jewish background is recognized as one of The 20th Century's most influential and prolific artists. He is credited with binding the gap between the movements of Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. A pioneer of the " Transfer Drawing " process, he experimented with technologically sophisticated combinations of photographs and drawings. He is highly regarded as a Modern Master of mixed media and collage. The works are layered and transcend the two dimensional format for the viewer. Art works by Rauschenberg are included in the collections of more than 70 of the world's most prestigious museums.
