This … Read more Kindel Grand Rapids made a limited number of reproductions of rare furniture under license from the Irish Georgian Society. This mahogany wake table is extraordinarily fine and rare. It is 96" wide and 19" deep with the leaves dropped. With both 17" leaves raised, it is 53". Splendid as a dining table or as a large sofa table or console table. Gorgeous finish, with a few tiny scratches that are not visible except close up. The closeup photos in this listing show the tiny scratches. Wake tables are usually oval-shaped with drop-leaf flaps that fold down to make them narrow. This shape makes it easy to position the table against a wall. Wake tables were used to display the coffin of the deceased before burial. They were also used for funerary rituals that took place throughout the night. All Kindel pieces are custom made to order.
