Especially in a boy framed by the evidence of abject poverty. How long can he endure? The artist, Roy Little, was described as an “endearing and gentle soul." Even if the glimpse of his subject was fleeting, it’s apparent the artist made a connection with the boy when he painted this in 1968. This work was done following a stint in the early 1960s when he served as an artist for the United States Army. It was an occupation that allowed Little to travel and paint in places like London.
Although he painted landscapes and nature scenes, the artist is known for the 25 years he created acclaimed works of art glass. His pieces were noted for their blend of realism and elegance, often integrating his painting skills into his glass creations, sometimes by permanently firing hand-painted details onto the glass.
Born in San Francisco in 1938, Roy Little passed away at age 69 in 2008.
