There are refinements here. A silken fringed shawl. Delicate red bead earrings and bracelet. But what to make of her frank expression?
The work’s creator, Leda Almar, is an Argentinian-born contemporary artist and sculptor known for her emotionally driven figurative work. She has particularly focused on the female form, making it deeply personal and often autobiographical as a reflection of her own emotions and feelings. Narrative is a key element in her work, whereby her characters' attitudes express her internal emotional landscape. She explores a variety of techniques and mediums including acrylic-on-canvas paintings like this one, as well as sculpture, stoneware, raku, underglazes, and drawing.
Almar now makes her home in South Florida, with a studio in Fort Lauderdale. She teaches classes and workshops at both her studio and the Boca Raton Museum of Art School. Her artwork has been featured in various exhibitions, including "The Villages Invitational Painters" exhibit and the "Toast to the Arts" exhibition at the Appleton Museum in Florida. She also painted the mural for the Rohan Recreation Center in The Villages.
