Japanese sosho style dry brush calligraphy scroll, ink on silk, with three large lines of bold, free-form, sosho calligraphy flanked by one smaller sosho line to the left, with two red seal marks to the lower left and one to the upper right. The calligraphy is mounted on a grey and rust colored silk brocade in a leafy flower and diamond medallions lattice pattern. Edo era, no later than Meiji era. Signs of wear and use commensurate with age: some light stains and losses to the image are seen, otherwise excellent vintage condition.
Image size is 21 " wide x 56" high.
Provenance: from the collection of Alexander Murray from the Edo, Meiji, Taisho and Showa periods.
