Restored rosewood dining table on pedestal base Attributed to Jorge Zalszupin, produced by L’Atelier San Paulo in Brazil in the 1960s. Zalszupin founded L’Atelier in 1959 and acted as the firm’s principal designer.
The pedestal base consists of a forged steel core encased in solid Brazilian rosewood, giving it the strength and weight to support the tabletop without compromising its slender, organic form. The feet fan out into an X formation, similar to Florence Knoll’s Table Desk from the same time period.
At just over 55” in diameter, it accommodates 6 guests comfortably. Like Saarinen’s iconic tulip table, the base maximizes leg room, making it possible to fit 7-8 people if needed.
The base is in excellent original condition, with some patina on the chrome parts. The rosewood casing shows little to no wear. The tabletop has been fully refinished. The table is sturdy and ready for another lifetime of use.
This table is unmarked. It came from a private collection of someone who imported extensively from Brazil. The highly distinctive base is identical to the bases of other L'Atelier pedestal tables.
