This is an exquisite etching of a Wire Fox Terrier by Kurt Meyer-Eberhardt (1895–1977), one of the most celebrated artists of dogs and cats in the 20th century. Born in Leipzig and later based in Munich, Meyer-Eberhardt became internationally admired for his sensitive, naturalistic portrayals of dogs, cats, hares, and other animals. His expressive command of line—subtle, precise, and emotionally resonant—sets his work apart and continues to captivate collectors around the world.
Meyer-Eberhardt studied at the Weimar Academy of Fine Arts under Theodor Hagen and Lionel Feininger, embracing a strong academic foundation while maintaining an independent artistic voice. He famously declined a professorship in order to preserve his individuality, dedicating his career to the animals he loved to depict. His works have been widely published by the esteemed Hanfstaengl Publishing Company in Munich, London, and New York since 1917.
