Porcupine quilling is an ancient Native American art. This box features a rose bud design with dyed red and yellow quills on the lid. It is in good condition, with no quills missing.

Measures 3" diameter, 2" tall. Amazing detail even on the inside and bottom.

This craft involves softening and dyeing porcupine quills and weaving them onto birch bark. The level of skill required for this type of craftsmanship is considered extraordinary.

This art was practiced especially among East Coast and Plains tribes. Though done less often today, it is still done mainly by members of the Ojibwe (Chippewa) and Micmac tribes. Unknown who made this particular box. It is listed as “Native American Style” because it cannot be attributed to a specific tribe or individual. See less
