It is made … Read more Bought from Japan, very large antique tsubo pottery vessel, estimated to be from the Meiji era (1800-1900's). It is made with pottery, and covered in paper, giving it a very beautiful wabi-sabi aesthetic. Color is naturally patina'd, some tears and wrinkles in the paper add to the textural and tonal nuance. Originally used to transport and store tea leaves, the paper wrapping was to prevent cracks and moisture for the vessel.

Over time, the patina of the paper creates a beautiful scenery, like an abstract painting. Such jars of this size that are still intact are rare. In good antique condition for its age. See less
