Le Marquis de Mirabeau Bronze. Signed Trupheme Syot, E. Colin & Cie, Paris, foundry mark, patinaed bronze, marble veneer stepped plinth.

Andre Francois Joseph Trupheme, a noted French sculptor, created a bronze of Comte de Mirabeau during his most productive period in the late 1850s. Mirabeau, circa 1749 to 1791, was a key orator and moderate figure in the early French Revolution. He advocated for a constitutional monarchy despite a scandalous personal life and complex political alliances. Though celebrated at his death and buried in the Pantheon, posthumous revelations of his secret ties to the monarchy damaged his reputation. Trupheme's work reflects his regional pride and enduring historical significance of Mirabeau.
