A vintage, hand-engraved Persian rectangular tray, made of brass, dating back to the early 20th century.
It was created using techniques such as chasing and repoussé, where the intricate design is hammered and engraved from both sides to create a detailed, raised (relief) scene. The main decorative feature is a highly detailed, dense pictorial scene filling the rectangular center panel. This scene is packed with numerous figures, both human and animal, in an outdoor setting with trees and possibly structures. Such scenes often depict folklore, daily life, or historical/mythological narratives, sometimes related to epics like the Shahnameh.
The central scene is framed by a narrow, repeating, decorative geometric or floral border. The outer edge of the entire tray also features a scalloped or "pie-crust" rim decorated with a repetitive, beaded-style pattern.
