This cabinet features intricate hand-carved openwork and mortise-and-tenon joinery.
The carving on the lower panels is a famous Chinese proverb: "書山有路勤為徑, 學海無涯苦作舟" (shū shān yǒu lù qín wéi jìng, xué hǎi wú yá kǔ zuò zhōu). Meaning "There are roads through the mountain of books, and diligence is the path; there are no limits to the sea of learning, and hard work is the boat". It encourages people to pursue knowledge with sustained effort and perseverance. It has two see through doors open in the front to reveal inner shelves. Inside cabinet, there are four shelves letting you store books, scrolls, or even food when you used it as kitchen cabinet.
