Early 20th Century Neoclassical Bronze Figural Lamp on figured onyx Base
A captivating neoclassical figural lamp, likely French or Italian, dating to the early 20th century. This sculptural piece features two finely cast bronze figures in contemplative poses—one reading aloud from an open book, the other resting pensively with a hand held palmette fan in one hand and resting her other arm on a column pedestal. Their expressive gestures and draped garments evoke classical allegory, possibly representing Philosophy and Poetry.
The figures are mounted on a richly figured, circular onyx base with warm caramel, grey, and cream tones, lending weight and elegance to the composition. Rising between them is a central lamp column adorned with acanthus detailing, on 4 scrolled feet and a fluted shaft, culminating in a single socket fitting with pull chain.
A poetic and scholarly presence, ideal for a library, study, or salon. This piece blends sculptural artistry with functional lighting, offering both illumination and intellectual charm.
