We are proud to offer a rare pair of Walter B. Stephen, "Twisted-handle", 4" Candlesticks in his famous Blue-green or Jade Glaze. The interior glaze of each is cream.
They were made by Mr. Stephen at his Arden, North Carolina Studio and the white clay was likely sourced from his property.
They measure 4 "high by 4" at the bottom (3.5" in diameter including the handle) and 2" at the top. The twisted handles of the candlesticks is a unique feature of Mr. Stephen's work.
In good to near excellent condition, some crackle to the glaze but there are no chips, damage or other defects to the pair.
Mr. Stephen is famous as a North Carolina Potter working from the mid 1930s until his death in 1961. He established his studio in 1926, and this distinctive Turquoise or Jade-green Glaze was developed by Mr. Stephen over many years in his wood-fired kiln on the property.
