This sculptural piece showcases the creative energy of the state’s modern craft revival period, when potters blended traditional wheel-thrown forms with symbolic, handmade adornments. The lid features three stylized human figures, each topped with a polished black agate stone, symbolizing unity and grounding—a hallmark of regional studio work influenced by Penland School of Craft and Seagrove artisans. Finished in a layered glaze of plum, iron, and ash tones, the pot reflects both artistic experimentation and North Carolina’s rich clay heritage.
