This polychrome vintage cityscape painting attracted me with its abstract cubist city scene paired with a candy-colored, kaleidoscopic palette that suggests a strong influence of Fauvism. The combination of these influences results in a lively composition that feels like a celebration of place and time. The primary purples, blues, pinks, and greens are accented with pops of orange and yellow building lights, and a church cross. The composition is grounded with a circular grove of trees on the far right side.
Signed Lydia D 80' on the canvas. Two addresses on the back suggest that the artist's last name is Dodson, and she was from California. 1980.
