Antique Peking Chinese Allover Floral Navy 1920s Rug, Circa Date: 1920s. This exceptional piece exemplifies the transitional design period of early 20th-century Chinese weaving, moving toward the modern aesthetic while retaining traditional craftsmanship. Its deep, saturated field provides a dramatic backdrop, utilizing the rich tones characteristic of blue color rugs.

The massive, nearly monochromatic navy field suggests a substantial presence, making it an ideal room size centerpiece. It is elegantly framed by a highly complex, stepped border. This intricate frame employs a palette of ochre, soft teal, and terracotta red, creating a striking visual contrast against the dark ground.

The border design departs from classical Chinese motifs, instead featuring stylized geometric elements and abstracted cartouches that hint at Western Art Deco influence. The corners are gracefully rounded, softening the overall rectangular structure and emphasizing the rug's luxurious texture.

Woven with high-quality wool and possessing a rich patina developed over a century, this rug is a superb example among antique rugs. It offers a powerful statement of elegance and enduring design quality, appealing to collectors of fine period furnishings and textile history. See less
