A remarkable piece of American nautical history, this impressive silverplate trophy is both a collector’s item and a stunning decorative accent for the coastal-inspired home. Measuring 14.5 inches high, 14 inches wide, and 8 inches deep, and weighing approximately six pounds, it features a beautifully engraved inscription on the front:
"Hampton Roads Star Class Challenge Trophy — To Be Raced For Each Year Until Won Three Times By a Star Skipper in Good Standing."
Only one name graces its surface, with a date of 1932, leaving a sense of mystery and an untold story from the golden age of American yacht racing.
This trophy hails from Hampton Roads, Virginia, a historically significant harbor region renowned for its naval history and vibrant maritime culture. The Star Class, one of the most enduring and competitive international sailing classes of the early 20th century, was beloved by serious yachtsmen, and this trophy stands as a rare surviving testament to that spirited tradition.
Good antique condition, very bright silver color surface. Some dents to rim on top and base. Please review the photos for further condition assessment.
Not only a trophy but a decorative statement piece, it makes a striking addition to a study, den, yacht club, or nautical-themed interior. Its bold form, rich silvered patina, and storied past lend character and presence to any space — whether displayed on a mantel, sideboard, or within a curated collection of maritime antiques. A perfect balance of heritage and home décor, this piece embodies the romance of the sea and the enduring legacy of competitive sailing along the storied shores of Hampton Roads.
